Wine Country meets the water along the Sonoma Coast. For a waterside tasting, check out Bodega Bay’s Gourmet au Bay. Enjoy a glass from one of the six bottles open at the bar, try “wine surfing” with three smaller tastings, or purchase and drink any one of the hundreds of bottles in the shop. Step onto the wine deck to take in the view. Check with proprietors Bob and Sissy Blanchard for advice on winery visits in the region.

At the intersection of Bodega Highway and Bohemian Highway between Bodega and Sebastopol, wine tasters can pop into the Freestone Vineyards Guest Center. (12747 El Camino Bodega in Freestone; 707-874-9263; open Fri. – Sun. 11 to 5)
For the more committed wine lover, a trip into the Russian River Valley may be in order. Take the scenic route with a drive into Occidental, then head north on the Bohemian Highway through the tiny town of Monte Rio and make a right onto River Road. Grab a map and scope out a few wineries to visit, or just stop when a place piques your interest.
