Spud Point Crab Co.

Website: www.spudpointcrab.com

With a limited menu — crab and shrimp sandwiches and cocktails, BBQ tri tip sandwiches, hot dogs, chili dogs and chowder — and no indoor seating, this small cafe does an amazing amount of business. It’s not uncommon to see a line stretching out the door and onto the sidewalk. The attraction? It’s got to be the food.

Tony and Carol Anello put their entire family to work at Spud Point Crab Co. Tony and his son catch the crabs and salmon, Carol does all the cooking, and the daughters and granddaughters take orders and serve up the food.

Tony has been fishing out of Bodega Bay since the 70s, even when the Anello family lived inland in Guernville. “We finally moved here in 1995 after the kids were out of school,” says Carol. The family launched the cafe in the summer of 2004.

“Bodega Bay is a beautiful and peaceful place to live,” says Carol. “The weather isn’t always the best, but when it is, you have heaven on earth.”

Tip: Spud Point Crab Co. is best known for Carol’s homemade white clam chowder and crab cakes. Chowder is a competitive business in Bodega Bay and Spud Point Crab Co. has won the annual “Chowder Day” competition for several years.
